No Rush to Surrender

The Ukrainian army announced the liberation of two villages from the Russian army. These new advances are the results of a plan to slowly retake territory lost to Ukraine earlier in Russia's invasion..

Analysts believe that Kyiv's goal for the counteroffensive is to force the Russian forces to disclose information regarding the location of their troops and supply bases. Since the Ukrainian army lacks armored vehicles and large army, a slow, systematic, liberation holds the potential to gain an advantage over their powerful foe.

According to reports, the morale of the Russian army has surely seen better days. While heavy losses and fatigue are contributing to the increasing lack of morale, the nonpayment of salaries has been especially hard on the Russian army. Not only have wages been unforthcoming, but uniforms, weapons, and rations have also been slow to arrive.

As the war wears on, the Russian army has two fronts they have to learn how to manage: the slow, systematic assault from the Ukrainian army and the internal struggle of poor logistics. If these issues persist, the Russian army will (hopefully) be forced to take their losses and move out of Ukraine.

Moscow and Muscovites

Vladimir Gilyarovsky's classic portrait of the Russian capital is one of Russians’ most beloved books. Yet it has never before been translated into English. Until now! It is a spectactular verbal pastiche: conversation, from gutter gibberish to the drawing room; oratory, from illiterates to aristocrats; prose, from boilerplate to Tolstoy; poetry, from earthy humor to Pushkin.

Davai! The Russians and Their Vodka

In this comprehensive, quixotic and addictive book, Edwin Trommelen explores all facets of the Russian obsession with vodka. Peering chiefly through the lenses of history and literature, Trommelen offers up an appropriately complex, rich and bittersweet portrait, based on great respect for Russian culture.
