The Right Dosage

The Right Dosage

“Sex after administration of the vaccine does not cause any side effects in people of any age. As a matter of fact, sexual activity provides a lot of satisfaction and pleasure. People’s fears go away, as sex "turns off" the head and relieves stress.”

– Russian sexologist Andrei Lygachin

On July 9, Russian news outlet Gazeta.ru interviewed several sexologists in response to a statement by Russia’s Deputy Minister of Health of the Saratov Region Denis Graifer, who announced that individuals should avoid sex after being vaccinated against Covid-19. Other sexologists also disagreed with Graifer and claimed that the vaccine should not have any effect on libido.

This is only true of with severe cases of Coronavirus, Lygachin stated, because the body is weakened from a toxic effect. But it is also “natural” to lose one’s libido in such physical conditions, stated sexologist, candidate of psychological sciences and rector of the Moscow Institute of Sexology Nastya Mikheeva. In fact, sex can even help you overcome Covid if you are feeling up to it, Mikheeva argued. “Sex in a comfortable position, regimen of activity, timing, and dosage does no harm - on the contrary, through the biochemistry of joy and pleasure, it improves mood and well-being and accelerates recovery.”

Moscow and Muscovites

Vladimir Gilyarovsky's classic portrait of the Russian capital is one of Russians’ most beloved books. Yet it has never before been translated into English. Until now! It is a spectactular verbal pastiche: conversation, from gutter gibberish to the drawing room; oratory, from illiterates to aristocrats; prose, from boilerplate to Tolstoy; poetry, from earthy humor to Pushkin.
