Twinkle, Twinkle

Twinkle, Twinkle
Now with 100% less reference to Moby Dick. RIA Novosti.

Just because myriad Western companies have left Russia in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine doesn't mean that Russians can't enjoy delicious joe. Fortunately for the caffeine-hungry, two entrepreneurial Russians have replaced Starbucks with a coffee shop that's a little more welcome: Stars Coffee.

This Russian reimagining of Starbucks arose after the Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee announced plans in March 2022 to leave Russia, making it one of dozens of organizations that fled the country amid economic and political hostility. Famous rapper Timati and restaurateur Anton Pinsky bought the Russian franchises of the popular coffee chain from the international corporation which operated them. Already, the 130 Star-with-no-Bucks Coffee locations are serving customers.

Since Timati and Pinsky aren't allowed to use Starbucks branding, they've put a new spin with seemingly minimal effort: indoor decor in photos published online looks like it's hardly changed, and the logo is still a circular portrait of a smiling woman. However, she wears the iconic and nationalistic Russian kokoshnik rather than sporting mermaid legs.
