St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg

Name: Mikhail Mokrushin

Age: 30

Profession: Photographer

City: St. Petersburg

How long have you been doing photography? I have been doing photography since 2005.

What style or genre most interests you? Photojournalism, street photography, genre photography.

Can you give us a short description of your city? St. Petersburg is Russia's most European city. It is truly an open air museum. Built according to a unified general plan, just like Paris or Barcelona, each of its buildings is valuable. But if you are curious and get off the central tourist avenues, then you will also be surprised by its contrasts.

If you choose [to visit] just one city in Russia, then of course it must be St. Petersburg.

What is something about your city that only locals would know? You must try the local shawarma (шаверма). It is practically a required gastronomical program. The best place to eat shawarma is on an excursion along the city roofs. From there you get an entirely different impression of the city.

If you are in the city in the spring, you have to try smelt (корюшка). It is a local fix and one of the city's gastronomic symbols.

Which places or sites are a must for someone to see if they visit your city? The center of the city. You can just stroll. It's pretty difficult to get lost.

Also visit the suburbs: Vyborg, Pyshkin, Pavlovsk, Peterhof.
