Russian Anxiety on the Rise

Russian Anxiety on the Rise
Military materiel. RussianLife files.

Anxieties around the war have increased among Russians since the beginning of Ukraine's offensive in the Kursk region.

According to a poll conducted by the Public Opinion Foundation, the percentage of Russians feeling anxiety about the war rose from 39 to 45 percent in the six days following Ukraine's first offensive on August 11.

This follows a period of relative calm reported in polls. At the end of July, only 33 percent of respondents indicated any level anxiety. Similar polls reported 55 percent of Russians feeling anxiety at the beginning of the war in 2022, and topped out at 70 percent in response to the mobilization

Ukraine's counteroffensive into Kursk Oblast marks the first land incursion into Russian territory since the Second World War.
