New Year, New Hopes

The Russian state-owned media outlet Izvestia shared the results of a survey on Russians' hopes and plans for 2025.

Reportedly, 31 percent of Russians believe that 2025 will be more difficult than 2024, but 14 percent hope for an easier year. A full 55 percent say it's too early to make a determination either way.

In ranking their hopes, 37 percent of respondents want to travel in 2025. Twenty-two percent hope to snatch a part-time job, and 20 percent want to change jobs. Education is also a popular goal for the new year: 15 percent hope to take an advanced training course, and 13 percent want a new profession.

Earlier this month, a similar poll said that 89 percent of Russians want to buy an apartment, but are certain that this will not happen. However, some 35 percent are confident they could get a new car in 2025.

Last year, Izvestia noted that, for 2,537 school-age Russians and their parents, 21 percent wanted a vacation in 2024, and 20 percent wanted academic success.
