Sexual Violence in the Ukrainian Invasion

Since the beginning of Russia's Ukraine War, over one hundred cases of sexual assault have been reported by Ukrainian civilians.

Among thousands of other war crimes committed by Russian forces, sexual assault cases total approximately 124, according to Pramila Patten, Special Representative for the UN Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict. Patten said it is important to note that these cases are only what has been reported to authorities, and the number may very well be much higher.

Karim Khan, an international criminal court prosecutor, previously expressed concern with crimes occurring in Ukraine, including sexual violence. He even suggested that a field office be opened by the International Criminal Court to increase authority presence and strengthen investigations.

This is yet another example of how the Russian invasion of Ukraine has deprived Ukrainian citizens of human rights and forced them to endure some of the worst war crimes imaginable.
