Running Away with the Story

Running Away with the Story
Retrieving things is in the breed description. Can you really blame it?    Yarenci Hdc, unsplash.com

Go fetch! This hilarious viral video shows a Russian newscaster for the channel "World 24" delivering an on-site report with the happy news that spring has come early to Moscow, only to be interrupted by the surest sign of spring there is — an excited puppy-dog out for a walk.

Like a true hardened criminal, the Golden Retriever (named Martin) jumped up, snatched the microphone right out of the reporter's hands, and took straight off with it. Luckily, the reporter was able to chase after the runaway thief and finish the report with the adorable perpetrator by her side.

Martin is certainly not the best boy in Russia, but at least he returned the stolen microphone mostly undamaged and in working condition.

Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time that the newscast of "World 24" has been taken advantage of by canine hooligans. A few years ago another video from their channel went viral, in which a black lab somehow broke into the station, put its paws up on the table, and nearly pushed the visibly distressed reporter off-screen.

Perhaps it's a conspiracy? Does "World 24" have a dog problem? We could think of worse issues to have to deal with in a work environment.

Stargorod: A Novel in Many Voices

Stargorod is a mid-sized provincial city that exists only in Russian metaphorical space. It has its roots in Gogol, and Ilf and Petrov, and is a place far from Moscow, but close to Russian hearts. It is a place of mystery and normality, of provincial innocence and Black Earth wisdom. Strange, inexplicable things happen in Stargorod. So do good things. And bad things. A lot like life everywhere, one might say. Only with a heavy dose of vodka, longing and mystery.
