A Corgi Coronation

A Corgi Coronation
These dogs would probably appreciate a ball in the traditional sense a lot more, but oh well... this is much cuter.  YouTube

While many were caught up in the royal wedding that took place in St Petersburg this past week, we at Russian Life had our eyes set on a different kind of royalty, as the third annual Corgi Ball also took place, but in the Moscow region.

This adorable event is a competition of both talent and appearance. Despite their small size and itty-bitty legs, these dogs can actually do quite a lot (for example: participating in Russia's police force)! As one part of the contest, the pups must compete in a miniature agility course. While it is a ball, no dog dancing is required, thank goodness.

The best part of the ball, though, is the costume party. This year you could see dogs dressed in creative outfits, such as a pirate, a princess, Napoleon, and a bank robber strutting down the (ironically titled) catwalk.

At the end, the winners of the competition are titled King and Queen Corgi and given the appropriate crowns and robes (which I'm sure the human guests appreciate a lot more than the dogs do). Long live the king! After all, we all could use some more corgi cuteness in our lives.
