Izrail Metter

Izrail Moiseyevich Metter (1909-1996) was a Leningrad poet and screenwriter who also taught mathematics. His writings and screenplays were noted for their truthful realism and his ability to show life as it really was. He worked for Leningrad radio during the Siege, and was one of the notable few who publicly stood in defense of Zoshchenko when he was being persecuted after the war.
