Spotify: Popular Music in Russia
Billie Eilish, most popular female artist on Russian Spotify. Glenn Francis of www.PacificProDigital.com.

A few months ago, Yandex Music released a report about Russian’s preferences for music over the past ten years. Now Spotify is offering an up-to-date snapshot of the music market in Russia. They recently ranked Russian music types, groups, and tracks to find the most popular music in Russia since their entrance on the Russian market on July 15.

According to data from Spotify’s users, the most popular genre of music is Russian rap, followed by foreign pop, Russian pop, Russian rock, and foreign rap. The top five male performers included performers from Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, but the most popular female performer was the American singer Billie Eilish; another American, Ariana Grande, was in third place for the top five most popular female performers, and the other three spots were taken up by singers from Russia: dora, Alena Shvets, and Zivert.

In terms of popular groups, two K-pop groups made it into the top five ranking, with BTS in first place and BLACKPINK in fourth. In third place is the Russian rock group Korol i Shut, and the remaining spots were taken by Russia’s Miyagi & Andy Panda and American $uicideBoy$.

Spotify is a streaming service with more than 320 million users. It began operations in Russia in July 2020.
