Should the Duma Broadcast in the Bathroom? Funny You Should Ask.

“I noticed that there are places here, shall we say, for contemplation.” said a Duma deputy, referring to… the bathroom. He continued: “And when important issues are being discussed, they should broadcast it there,” so that deputies could return from their “contemplation” right away.

This proposal was made when deputies were in hot water after the Speaker of the Duma admonished them for being absent during a discussion of hot meals in primary schools. The Speaker found the idea to install direct translation of Duma proceedings in the toilet so funny he couldn’t even repeat it formally, because he had laughed himself to tears.

But, then again, when the proverbial g***o hits the fan in the Duma, how will “contemplating” deputies know? The proposal was accepted for contemplation – wherever they choose to do it – by the Committee on Control and Regulation.
