Koral

Koral
In Lovozero, the annual reindeer roundup is called the koral. It is the time when herds are gathered from across the tundra and driven to SPK Tundra, the local agricultural cooperative, where the animals have their antlers sawed off, are castrated, ear-tagged, vaccinated and microchipped. The koral usually runs from December through March. Each herd takes several days to gather, though the actual work with the animals takes just one day: by evening the reindeer are turned loose again onto the tundra.
