Letters to the Editor

CORRECTION

In the March/April issue of Russian Life, we ran a story on Liya Fisenko, head of the Russian travel agency Marlis Travel. Unfortunately, some incorrect information was printed in that article.

This article stated that “Intourist fell apart with the collapse of the USSR.” That statement was incorrect. It should have read, “The Soviet Ministry of Tourism fell apart with the collapse of the USSR.” Intourist (founded in 1929) is alive and well and remains a respected travel agent and tour provider both within and without Russia.

We extend our sincerest apologies to Intourist and to our readers for any misunderstanding that may have resulted from this error.

Sincerely,

To the Editors:

The selection of the eight young women [Russian Life, March/April 2000] was excellent. Each one of them must be commended for her accomplishments. The ballet dancer and gymnast will hear their accomplishments applauded in the arena. The other young ladies may never hear the thunder of applause for their accomplishments but they are no less worthy. They represent the millions of unsung success stories around the world.

If every young person in Russia could read their stories and follow their determination, Russia might soon reach the greatness it strives for.
