Shipping Information

Our basic shipping rates are for us to ship orders via the most economical, reliable means possible. In most cases, we ship orders with the US Postal Service (Media Mail for some books, otherwise we use First Class or Priority Mail). Media Mail takes a week or so, in our experience. Priority Mail generally takes 2-3 days within the continental United States. First Class Mail, which has a day or two longer delivery time than Priority.

We may choose to ship weightier orders via UPS ground, unless you indicate this is not a good option for you (or if you provide a PO Box as delivery address). United Parcel Shipments from Vermont take from 1-2 business days (to New England and the upper East Coast) to 7 -8 days (West Coast). If you require that we ship to you via UPS ground, there may be some extra shipping charges; in fact, our online store will automatically tack on a $4 surcharge to send any order via UPS. But if we find, upon checking the UPS shipping rate for your order, that this is not warranted, we will of course lower your shipping fee. (Mainly this fee is warranted for the higher cost of shipping lower-weight orders via UPS, or for shipments going to a residential address, which is rather expensive via UPS.)

Rush orders: If you absolutely, positively must have something arrive by a certain date, please call us between business hours (9 am to 4 PM, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time) and we can look at the options and costs: 802-223-4955. You can include a note in the NOTES portion of your online order, requesting any special delivery considerations, and we will reply via email, but this is not a guarantee of the swiftest possible shipping, as online orders are normally only shipped out Monday, Wednesday or Friday (see below).

Subscriptions: We send out first issues of new Russian Life and Chtenia subscriptions once a week. These travel by periodical class mail and generally take 1-2 weeks to arrive. Please take this time delay into consideration if you are giving someone a gift subscription (you may want to instead order a back issue delivered by first class mail, with the subscription to follow by regular periodical mailings). We send out gift cards for subscriptions within one week of your order, and they go by first class mail. Still, depending on your deadlines, you may wish to present your recipient with a card yourself.

Order Processing: We process orders daily, but ship only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. To determine when your order will ship, see the chart below. We are happy to accommodate rush orders, but please call (see above) to make these happen.

Time in Transit. The chart below is an approximation of delivery time to you. Begin with the ship date from the table above, and add the number of Business Days from the table below.

This map shows the estimated time in transit for shipments via UPS Ground, from the date of shipment from Vermont. These are only approximate, and things such as weather and residential versus business address can impact actual delivery times. If your order is shipping via UPS, we will usually email a tracking code, and can always provide one upon request.

Extra Shipping and Handling: If you are placing an internationally-shipped order and you have been informed by us that you need to pay additional shipping and handling (because our store under-calculated the postage cost), you can simply go to this page and pay that additional amount.
