Russian Life magazine Editors
Russian Life is the 51-year-old bimonthly magazine covering Russian culture, history, business, society and travel. The intent of Russian Life is to offer an objective, insightful trip into the heart of Russian reality. Russian Life is privately owned and fiercely independent. The magazine has no affiliation, official or unofficial, with the government of Russia or the United States, nor with any political agency, lobbying group or media conglomerate. As such, Russian Life is beholden only to its subscribers.
Paul E. Richardson
Publisher and Editor
As Publisher and Editor of Russian Life, Paul Richardson oversees all editorial, design, production and management out of the magazine's office in Montpelier, Vermont. Involved in US-Russian business for nearly 20 years, Richardson headed up one of the first Soviet-Western joint ventures in Moscow in 1989 and 1990. He has a Master's Degree in Political Science and a Russian Area Studies Certificate from Indiana University, Bloomington. He has written numerous articles for Russian Life and other publications and authored several editions of the Russia Business Survival Guide. His website is here, and his blog over here.
Maria Antonova
Managing Editor
Maria Antonov was born in Moscow, moved to the U.S. in 1994, but returned regularly. After completing BA degrees in French and International Studies at the University of Washington, she relocated back to Moscow. She currently freelances for several publications, including The Moscow Times, in addition to her duties as Russian Life's Managing Editor.
Darra Goldstein
Food Editor
Darra is the author of four cookbooks: A Taste of Russia, The Georgian Feast (winner of the IACP Julia Child Award for cookbook of the year), The Winter Vegetarian, and Baking Boot Camp at the CIA. She is Founding Editor of the quarterly magazine Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture, published by University of California Press. Goldstein is the Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Russian at Williams College and widely considered to be a leading authority on Russian cooking and culinary arts. She has been the magazine's food editor since 2003. Her website is here.
Tamara Eidelman
History Editor
Tamara Eidelman teaches history at one of Moscow’s finest high schools. She is a member of the Moscow and European Associations of History Teachers and works as a radio host on Mayak-24, where she writes the history program, Conjunctive Mood. She has been the magazine's History Editor since 2003. She compiles the Calendar section and regularly contributes, vetts and edits articles on historical themes.
Mikhail Ivanov
Sports Editor
A former Editor of Russian Life (1995-2003), Ivanov is Managing Editor of Tennis Weekend magazine in Moscow and author of one of the magazine's most popular columns, Survival Russian. An expert on Russian and Soviet sport, he contributes sports news to Russian Life. Yet, as a highly qualified journalist, he has written countless articles for the magazine since 1995. The second revised and expanded edition of his book, Survival Russian, has just been published. It includes 95 Survival Russian columns, 81 of which were written by Ivanov.
