AFANASY FET (1820-1892) was one of the finest Russian poets of nineteenth century, famous first of all for his wonderful evocations of the world’s natural beauty, but also for his poetic landscapes and love poems. He was criticized by his contemporaries for his poetry’s lack of political content, the very thing that made him especially dear to many poets and writers of the Silver Age and later.
