BRIAN REEVE was born in Tottenham, North London, and gained grade one Russian A level at school. He then went on to Essex University where he took a degree in Russian, spent some years as a teacher of children with behavioral and learning difficulties, then, in his late twenties, began to work as an interpreter and translator in the field of Russian, and has now visited the countries of the former Soviet Union over 100 times. In 2007 he gained a Ph.D from Nottingham University in the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, and has been a visiting lecturer at numerous universities, speaking mainly on Chekhov and late-nineteenth-century Russian music.
