James Duff (1860-1940) taught and translated Latin and Greek at Trinity College, Cambridge (Britain). He was over 40 when he taught himself Russian, so that he could read Tolstoy and Turgenev in the original. He translated Sergei Aksakov’s autobiographical works in three volumes published between 1915 and 1917.
